My Writing Experience- Part 2

This is a concept picked up during my sessions in the course which provided much needed insight for me as a teacher of language and literacy.

Extract from Class:

Why is writing (written communication) important?

"The extent to which a student can demonstrate their academic ability is significantly reliant upon their ability to capture their thoughts in written communication.

For each year level and academic task that a student attempts, there is usually a prescribed (known) or even an unwritten expectation of how much should be written, by what means (typed, handwritten using pencil or later pen) and how the information should be structured. 

By the time students reach high school, there are usually word limit guidelines.

However, the early years of schooling are more flexible, though there are some key expectations and abilities that students need to meet."

The importance of writing has always been a significant concept to uphold in the classroom as it helps student to outline the means by which they can build their expressive and communicative skills.

Why Teach Writing?

Teaching writing is not just about helping students produce essays or complete assignments it is about equipping them with lifelong skills that shape how they think, communicate, and understand the world. Writing is a foundational skill across all levels of education and in every career field, making it one of the most powerful subjects you can teach.
